Angel Cabales

Grand Master Angel Cabales was born in 1971 in the Philippines. He learned escrima from a De Cuerdas Escrima Master named Felicomo Dizon. Cabales grew up in a small village but at the age of 18 he moved to Manila. Malila at this time was a rough port overrun with violent crime and this became the training ground for Angel to hone his craft. He fought in countless brawls and death matches building his skills and his reputation. Cabales left the Philippines on a cargo ship in 1939. While onboard this ship he was attacked by a man attempting to take his life. With three strikes Cabales had left the man dead. This became his famous catchphrase and motto “Three Strikes and a man will fall”. Cabales eventually ended up in San Francisco and then relocated to Stockton California. In 1965 he opened the first public Filipino Martial Arts Academy in the US. His many years of battles had taken his skills to another level and he had made many changes to the De Cuerdas Style he had learned years before. He created his own name to represent his new system Serrada Escrima. Serrada stood out from other Escrima Systems for having a standardized curriculum based around his 12 angles of attack as well as an official Ranking System. Cabales was an Instructor or Instructors and many modern systems of Escrima came from Instructors who were trained by Cabales. Grand Master Angel Cabales passed away in 1990. His legacy is carried on by the Angels Disciples Group.
